Bluehost Review

About Bluehost

Bluehost is one of the largest hosting companies in the world. It was founded in 2003 and grew at an exponential rate. They built their platforms based on open source technologies and contributed back to those open source programs.

In 2010, Bluehost was acquired by Endurance International Group.

Bluehost has their own data center and they build their own servers on their own custom Linux kernel. Their data center has their own fiber network and they build their own custom Linux kernel.

Bluehost controls every aspect of the technology they use for their platform. It gives them the confidence to handle more clients, more data, and more servers with efficiency and great client satisfaction.

UpTime – last 6 months

It’s safe to say that Bluehost offer fantastic uptime speeds; 99.97% is impressive by anyone’s standards. Uptime is valuable for ensuring your website is seen by people making their way to your website; if it’s offline, no one is looking at it, and that can mean lost revenue for many, or at the very least, lost visitors (particularly important for businesses or blogs).

With an almost perfect uptime rating, Bluehost achieve a 10 uptime score from us – good job Bluehost!

The Good

Customer support:

Compared to other hosting services, I would rate Bluehost’s customer support as 4/5. You can get in touch with them via live chat, email or telephone. In most cases, resolution time is 5-30 minutes, which is an average support time for any shared hosting.

Since Bluehost servers are optimized for WordPress hosting, you will find that you have very few issues with them. Moreover, they have been in the hosting business for almost 17 years, which is remarkable longevity for any web-hosting company.

Ease Of Use:

Bluehost uses cPanel, which is so far one of the easiest hosting panels that I have come across. Most of the shared hosting companies use the standard cPanel, and you will not find it hard to use. In fact, cPanel makes managing your hosting account easier. Also, Bluehost is one of very few shared Web hosting companies which will allow you to access SSH.

The Bad

No uptime guarantee
Bluehost is one of very few web hosting companies that does not provide an uptime guarantee to their customers which is disappointing because, if your website goes down due to a malfunction on their part, you are not compensated in any way. This has an especially big impact on those who sell products online because unexpected server downtime could really impact sales. While some may not be too concerned about this, it would still be nice to see Bluehost guarantee their uptime since it would give their web hosting customers a lot of peace of mind.
Missing a catchall email
Though Bluehost has some great email capabilities, they are missing a catchall email, which is a very useful option for receiving emails sent to an address at your domain that doesn’t exist. Without a catchall email, you don’t receive these emails at all. Some may not feel that this is a necessary feature, in which case its omission shouldn’t be a problem at all. But, for those who are interested in a catchall email option, there are plenty of other web hosting services that offer this feature.
